Just finished an article on the increase of minimum wage in NJ. One of the arguments for the raise was When you increase the purchasing power of the lowest paid workers in a state, you drive consumer spending and that can promote job growth and end up supporting small businesses. I find this to be disturbing. Instead of taking earnings and investing in a better way of life or saving, those workers will spend it on clothes, electronics, and jewlery. This is how the poor stay poorer, and the rich get richer. All that a raise means, is that the rich will have a fatter pockets. Meanwhile, rents in urban cities are going through the roof. Million dollar homes are being sold in Bed- Stuy (still waiting to see that shown in a spike lee movie), and the GOP is having a hissy fit because Healthcare.gov isnt up to par. Really? Tell that to the millions of uninsured, who NEVER had access to affordable healthcare. Im sure they dont mind that the website is going through a tune up! The media attempts to entertain us with broadcasting soundbytes from out of touch and reality democrats, republicans, and tea party members. Enough already! Im hiring Olivia Pope!
