Just finished day 4 of hiking the Camino deSantiago with my friend - TopicsExpress

Just finished day 4 of hiking the Camino deSantiago with my friend Don in Spain. Roughly 80 miles covered and only 520 more to go.... First day leaving St Jean, France and hiked uphill 9000 ft vertical to the top of the Pyrenees and spent the night at an incredible monastery that was constructed over 1400 years ago! Most of the day was spent in a pretty heavy wet snow. Good to have a warm, dry place to sleep Day 2: Started out Waking up in the monastery, and looking outside to find two ft of fresh snow on the ground. As we walked down the other side of the Pyrenees, we encountered driving rain and wind for over 6 hours. The German and Aussie folks that we are hiking with were just as cold and soaked as us. Rule umber one hiking the Camino....make sure your shoes are tested waterproof!!! Finally made it to an albeurge after 9 hours on the road with only one small local market for provisions. Hope the next day in Pamplona will be better. Day 3: Arriving in Pamplona after a semi sunny day. First order of business, look for a new pair of Gore tex shoes. The Salomons that I was wearing the last 3 weeks just arent cutting it. Pamplona is the largest city we will be passing through on our trek. Great shopping, restaurants and hotels. Found a pair f heavy duty trekking shoes with Goretex at a store where the shopkeeper was very helpful. Told us of a great tapas bar to go to eat right on the path that the bulls run in the famous celebration in July. Hemingway is big here...trying to finish up The Sun Also Rises as we head into Basque Country for day 4. Amazing Pamplona! Day 4: Left early this morning headed to Puente de Reina. 19 miles and Perdon mountain to summit. The Camino today was incredible walking out of the old city part of Pamplona with the sun rising at our backs and the windmill topped Perdom mountain range in our siite to scale today. Passed through a cool, small village called Ortuega, the village of 100 doors. Great lunch stop for fruit and tapas with other pilgrims at a cafe on outskirts of village. High winds most of the day kept the windmills humming while we were hiking. Why dont we use more of this clean energy source in the US?
