Just finished perusing a draft copy of a kannada book to be published shortly : ಮೈಸೂರು ದಸರಾ- ಒಂದು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ . ( Mysore Dasara- A cultural study ). The author Dr. V.Ranganath was conferred doctorate for his thesis on the same subject by Karnataka State Open University. Author is working as Tahsildar and seems to possess a humongous appetite for research work. A very Honest and comprehensive work. Needs tight editing to make it more appealing. In a work of this nature genuine historical errors creeping here and there are natural but that does not diminish the quality of the effort. The fact that no one had attempted a book in Kannada on this subject makes it all the more commendable . Dasara in Mysore by Mr. C.Hayavadana Rao in 1936 and Mysore Royal Dasara by Swami Sivapriyananda & Gajendra singh Auwa- 1995 are the only two known earlier works on this subject but both are in English. I was zapped when the author came home along with the publisher and gave me this privilege ! Both of them were strangers otherwise ! It was humbling !
