Just finished soloing Scotland Rising from Worthington. Even tho the kickstarter goal provided upgrades to blocks, Im only using them for leaders, there is no fog of war component or most units are 2 step signified by flipping after a loss. Ill save those blocks for what was shorted in NY 1776 kickstarter (more on that later). Game plays pretty well, asymmetrical as expected. Random action points between 5 and 9 per turn, units can either move or fire except Knights, ax-men and leaders who can charge and do both. 1 of 6 chance to trigger a random battle event each turn. Reduced strength units can be rallied back to full strength by leaders. No reinforcements. To win, in theory, Bruce and co. need a strong start, to kill of a bunch of high VP knights who are in the vanguard, then move into schiltrons to slow down the slow but likely advance and revenge of Eddies guys. The Scots also get a one time Scots charge when up to 9 units can move and fire in same turn and need to make this produce. Mine was completely ineffective. This game is in Worthingtons new PT-90 game line with 90 minutes or less game play and is true for Bannockburn, the battle only lasted 90 minutes so a game shouldnt take longer than the actual battle! VPs come from death and the reds also get points for exiting the far side of the map to head off for relief of Stirling. About 9 turns in, the Scots were pretty thin and by turn 11 (of 15), they had a very small line, mostly in schiltrons while Edwards forces were fresh and in good battle order with a healthy reserve, the Bruces sued for peace and swore allegiance to the crown. See all the dead blue guys vs red when I gave...The kickstarter didnt go well and only reached the goal of a free bumper sticker so the higher rewards of the next two maps, Battle of Stirling Bridge and Battle of Falkirk werent included (but they did include the William Wallace counter) so I assume these will be for sale on their site to expand this one scenario game. I am looking forward to competitive play on this one, maybe next game day?
