Just finished this orrery a couple days ago. Originally it had Eris and Ceres as well, but I figured their inclusion would spawn a bunch of comments asking, why are there 11 planets? Well there arent 11. There also arent 9. There are 8. Pluto is a dwarf planet like Eris and Ceres, but I included it in this video to appease nostalgia. Anyway, this was an awesome kit to construct. All the gears are precision engineered to move in exact proportion to the revolutions of the planets. (Obviously sizes and elliptical orbits are not to scale, but thats not the point.) my favorite touch is the moons orbit around the Earth, which is also in proportion to the movement of the Earth around the Sun. Now to build a time machine and put this thing in Ptolemys hands!
