Just finished watching Scott play soccer. The more I love him, the more I love to watch him play. I havent always been good at it. I was sometimes resentful his priorities were not mine. Us Moms can tend to be a bit critical and controlling about how Dads spend their non-work time. Scott realllly loves soccer. Plays on 2 teams, coaches 3. It took some getting used to and although he has made a ton of sacrifices for our family, he made it clear from the beginning it was something that would always be a priority for him. Over time (and the realization he wasnt kidding about that) I learned to accept it... and, of course as true love would have it...he was the one who taught me how. He has always just embraced whatever I love, even when he doesnt understand it or feel the same about it. He still welcomes it. He is never critical of it. I easily spend as much time writing and on Facebook as he does playing soccer. He knows my hearts desire is never something he can control. His support for what I chose makes it so much easier to support what he choses..... to the point that now, I chose it to. Commitment isnt about changing each other or controlling who likes what. Its about mutual love and respect for what keeps your partner moving forward as their best self. Working together to keep both of your hearts happy. If for some reason you dont feel like you are getting the support you need for what you love - maybe start by giving it. Definitely worked for Scott.
