Just found out the English translation to the chorus of Hyunas super-catchy single Red. You know which one Im talkin about. The EDM-sound smash hit that has a nursery-rhyme like chorus which goes: Wonsungi eongdeongineun ppalgae What ppalgan geon hyeona hyeonaneun yeah Yeah. In English it means: A monkey’s butt is red, what Red is Hyuna, Hyuna is yeah This discovery had my wife Dilys Tan laughing non-stop for a good 5 minutes till her face turned into the colour of a monkeys butt. A couple of clicks later, I found out that this line was ripped from a Korean nursery rhyme which teaches kids word association (e.g. a monkeys butt is red, apple is red, apple is delicious, banana is delicious...etc). Whatever the reasoning, it takes a hell load of confidence to compare yourself to a monkeys butt in the chorus of your lead single from your album during the peak of fame. And then shoot a music video filled with monkey imagery, including carrying a monkey wearing red shorts clinging on to your naked body.
