Just found something amazing. When I was a little kid, mom and I - TopicsExpress

Just found something amazing. When I was a little kid, mom and I lived at Grandmas. She had these big flowering bushes in the backyard, up against the fence separating the alley from the yard. Little bunches of white flowers grew along long, flexible stems, sticking out in all directions. They were great for making the flower crowns. But these bushes had a special feature just for us little kids. There was a space down by the ground where the fronds grew in a short arc, providing an entrance to the inside of the bushes. A five year old child could crawl in there and sit for hours, looking at the bushes from the inside, thinking about stuff, playing with dirt, whatever. Four of us could get in there and sit cross legged, knee to knee, and talk about the wonders we were learning of the world, the human condition, etc. Also, little Jake Bishop really tried to talk us into playing doctor out there, but I dont think anyone took him up on it. When my grandma started having health problems that didnt allow her to move around much anymore, taking care of her yard became a major job for anyone else who did it. She had lots of other flowering bushes, many small flower gardens, a patch of completely wild lawn (where I used to sit and see fairies when I was little) and the huge garden she shared with the neighbors. So, the flowering bushes came down, including our secret clubhouse. Ive never felt the same as I did when I was able to crawl inside there and just hang out, watch and listen as Nature happened around me. Ive always loved those bushes and never knew what they were called until I found these. Theyre Hawthorn. Ours was always white, even though it seems to come in all different colors, and I never saw any berries, but this is exactly what those bushes looked like. My grandmother passed on in 2004. The house was renovated and sold, and now the outside looks totally different. Its not my place anymore, and even my hawthorn hideaway is gone.
