Just going through some pictures released on the HMS Empire Javelin. My dad was on board on his way to fight in the Battle of the Bulge in WW II. He had many vivid stories on where he was when first torpedoed by a German U boat in the English Channel. Also while jumping onto a British Corvette that pulled up alongside for rescue. There were loses, and he once told me of the screams from men trapped below decks from buckled bulkheads and such. Dad could speak both German, and French fluently! Many a stories I head, some not until much later in his life. While on board the British Corvette after abandoning shop two more torpedoes went right under them slamming into the heavily damaged troop shop and thus sealing its doom. Only by chance their draft was less then the torpedoes otherwise many men would have perished that day.
