Just got a note that I can expect a check in the mail for various online sales and streaming of my music. I was excited at first, but then I saw the complete breakdown. Im still excited that it includes sales from Canada and Europe, as well as here in the states...because it shows that the music is getting out there, and thats good. But the bottom line was thin. Very thin. Heres the thing....we artists DO want online sales, because it allows us to reach a much broader audience all over the world. But online distributors all take their cut...and it can be a DEEP one, depending on the retailer. So, whenever possible, please purchase your music directly from the artist at their shows, order one directly from them or via the online retailer that they suggest (the one that, typically, allows for a higher profit margin).
