Just got back from Court where I witnessed a man pleading guilty - TopicsExpress

Just got back from Court where I witnessed a man pleading guilty to the heinous crime of begging in Westminster. What he had actually done was dress up as Charlie Chaplin, and pose for photographs with tourists and then hold his hand out to indicate that he would like to be paid. A tourist got her purse out and before she could give him money a Police Officer arrested him. He was then transported to a police station where a custody sergeant would have checked him in and assessed him. Then a police interview taped and a report sent to CPS for a charging decision. Custody Sergeant then remands him in custody over night and Serco called out to transport him to Court this morning where he gets checked into custody and allocated a cell. Then mid morning, he appears in Court locked up and with an interpreter where he admits this evil deed and is before three Magistrates, a Court Legal Advisor, a prosecutor from the CPS and the Duty Solicitor. The Magistrates fined him £50, added a victim surcharge of £20 and then deemed the £70 served as he had spent the night in custody and released him. WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY. STOP ARRESTING PEOPLE FOR RIDICULOUS OFFENCES THAT SHOULDNT EXIST. [Rant over]
