Just got back from Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. John and I - TopicsExpress

Just got back from Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. John and I went out looking for Stilt Sandpipers that were reported there the day before and saw two. Had some nice looks. Plenty of other expected birds as well and a good look at a baby Oystercatcher...but the highlight of the trip was a great look at 2 Reeves (female Ruffs for my non-birding friends)! They were in the NW Pool, just after the last cross dike around 12:40 PM. We saw a "traffic jam" of cars stopped on the dike and people out of their cars with scopes...since the greenhead flies are so terrible...we knew it had to be something special to get folks out of their air-conditioned vehicles and brave the biting flies...we were right...the birders had 2 Reeves in their scopes. They were kind enough to let us have some good looks and helped us set my scope up on them. Very nice/rare birds and an unexpected sighting. Thanks to our anonymous birding friends for their help with these birds...Thanks to Lisa, Alisa, Scott and others who remain nameless. :)
