Just got called by someone trying to peddle the hoary old Windows Tech Support scam ( microsoft/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx ). Microsoft is famously averse to having anything more to do with its end users than is absolutely necessary, so the scams premise, that Microsoft is paying people to call end users to warn them of some urgent threat to their systems, is already just this side of a Python sketch. Im not exactly sure what the endgame of this particular call was - I lost patience with him and hung up long before he got very far into the phone script he was unsuccessfully struggling through. But it might be worth noting that people are still trying to run this old scam.
