Just got off a conference call with a collective of leaders from around the country representing Christian humanitarian organizations involved in Israel/Palestine. We are all intimately and relationally tied to the tragedies unfolding there right now. Our hearts are heavy at both the loss of life and the loss of a shared humanity as demonization and simplistic responses fill the air. But, as we each shared updates of our work and how we are supporting those working redemptively in the midst of this mess, it was clear to us all that there is no more important time for the Church to embrace her role as an instrument of peace. We will neither endorse the escalation of violence or turn a blind eye to the conflict in a posture of retreat. Instead, we must move to the center of conflict transformatively, trusting that the seeds of genuine reconciliation sprout from the soil of conflict.
