Just got off the phone with Peppy Castro of The Blues Magoos. We chatted about a wide variety of topics, including something hes rarely asked about: the late-period Blues Magoos albums, 1969s Never Goin Back to Georgia and 1970s Gulf Coast Bound. While those LPs are Magoos albums in name only, the original intent behind them was quite different: Castros goal -- as the son of a Colombian father -- was to create new, Latin-flavored rock. Legal hassles held up the release of the first album in that style, and in the interim, Santana released their debut LP. Life is funny sometimes.
