Just got off the phone with a mentor of mine for the last 10 or so - TopicsExpress

Just got off the phone with a mentor of mine for the last 10 or so years. He helped me see into some of my possibly confusing posts and I appreciate his guidance. I would like to set the record straight and clear up any confusion around my beliefs - for what its worth. Although I speak for compassion I never mean to denounce or alienate my community especially around matters that I know little of (I know lots about heart but little about politics and military defense) I grew up in a world without hate. My ancestors did well in providing a legacy for me in Toronto. I also grew up in a time far enough away from the holocaust that I am naïve of certain terror Jews have gone through (and still do) Although I have not really taken a stance about any of the things everyone else is sticking to, I have been called out a lot this last week (phonecalls, private messages etc) so let me clarify (as I have always been trying to) the following are not questionable and I fully stand behind. 1. jews need a place that they are safe – there is a real threat in the world (and have always been) for our safety. There is no other group that I know of where another group wants to kill us and its part of their ideology. Even though I do not identify myself as a religious group and have moved beyond that - antisemites dont care if I think I am jewish or not - and they will round me up and kill me just the same if anything were to happen again (as it is escalating in Europe) – wether or not taking Israel after the holocaust was the right decision at the time – that is in the past and nothing can be done about it anymore – they are not going anywhere. 2. Israelis need to defend themselves 3. Terrorism is real. It needs to be stopped by all people but unfortunately Israelis alone are on the front lines. we need a unifying voice against terrorism – not just Israel against hamas 4. Israelis are alone in number 1 and 2 and 3 and only receive condemnation for the both 5. muslims around the world need to denounce terrorism and join #3 6. I support and deeply empathize for innocent Palestinians not hamas. They are in a terrible position and have been for decades (regardless of who’s fault) 7. I understand the position of someone who feels oppressed and wonder how I would feel or what I would do in his or her place. 8. I understand Israel and wonder how I would feel or what I would do in their place. 9. death is real and anyone who is murdered – their family will want revenge – as would I if I was in their place – if anyone killed my brothers or my parents or my loved once I don’t know if I would be able to heal. I cannot take any judgment when I live in a place so far removed from there 10. Israel has certain accountabilities and responsibilities to take over the last 60+ years and doing so will bring peace (stop solely pointing fingers) all resources need to be put towards finding a sustainable solution for both people. 10.5 palestinians need to do the same 11.the diaspora needs to support Israel while showing the world that we are compassionate and clear headed – especially about death – the world is watching us – we need to be accountable for everything we say and do – and we need to speak out (privately maybe and if that doesn’t work publicly) about our own people that are acting out of line. Its good to see jews questioning “what else can we do?” – it helps people not to hate us 11.5 muslims should do the same 12. we need a unifying voice against hatred – not just the world (and many members of the arab nation) against Jews – what I have seen on facebook and youtube over the years is disgusting – refrences to the holocaust being just, etc 13. the tunnels were real and unconvered and were going to be used for mass murder – had this of happened and they were successful – Israel would have retaliated in a way that would be even more devastating than it is now and the world would have responded with even more hatred. We need to stop pointing fingers at Israel for defending her people without being compassionate and putting ourselves in their shoes. None of us are military experts and we have no clue how to defend a country 14. death is rteal and anyone who is murdered – their family will want revenge 15. death can never be justified. No lives are important over others. All death should be followed with remorse 16. forgive and move forward Above all. Love yourself. The way you treat others is the way you feel about yourself. Forgive each other and work together to find peace. I’d be interested to hear if anyone disagrees with any of my points as I am open (as we should all be) to amending my stance and discussing.
