Just had a cat with an anal gland abscess, boy these are so painful, especially in cats? Cats incessantly lick the anal area when their anal gland ducts are obstructed and/or infected. Dogs scoot their bottoms across the floor in an attempt to open them up, If you see your pet do this get them to your vet right away for treatment, pets that have repeated problems should have an anal sacculectomy(removal) to stop this problem forever. They serve no useful function other to mark territory and to make your carpet stink!
