Just had a great weekend. In my journey with music I never had the opportunity to rap at a sold out First Ave show. I neither reached the level or popularity myself, nor was given a spot to open for someone who sold it out. Though I had some fun shows there. In 1997 Kanser music was one of the openers at Atmospheres first release show, but that was early on and the combined draw off all the acts wasnt more than 500. In 2004 we teamed up with unknown prophets to have a duel album release party that drew almost 800. In 2008 Heiruspecs brought me on for one song during the release party for their self titled album. It was close to sold out, and probably one of the best few minutes of my life (LOL). Few weeks back Dessa Darling emailed me offering me to play a song during the Doomtree Blowout. 3 nights in a row they were bringing 5/6 local friends up to perform a track each between the Doomtree sets. It was tough, but I initially turned down the slot because I figured it should go to someone whos grinding harder right night. And I hadnt made any music that wasnt with Useful Jenkins in over a year. But last week DJ Fundo McGee (who was running all the sets) reached out letting me know it was all in fun and gave me a second chance to take the slot. So last night I got to be apart of the last Doomtree Blowout, slide on stage and perform to the sold out First Ave. Ill never forget that Doomtree blessed me with that. The energy backstage with all the other artists was beautiful, and Doomtrees encore was awesome. Flash back 14 years ago, I get into this argument was a house party with Nic Swisher aka Big Wiz about how I thought Kobe Bryant was an over rated basketball player. At the time I felt if Vince Carter was on a team with Shaq he would look just as good. Few years later I realized I was wrong when Kobe dominated the 2002 All Star Game and I called Wiz to admit he was right. Tonight, me, Wiz and the grip of the Long Doe crew went to the Target Center and witnessed Kobe Bryant surpass Micheal Jordan for 3rd on the all time NBA scoring list. Aqf Ebnzr, T La Shawn, Remo Williamz, Mike the Mar, Will Greens. Big facebook blast to my boy DJ Mad Mardigan for hooking up the tickets and the t-shirt. And Amber Weissinger for hooking up the Target Center health food. Life can be over in a flash, gotta appreciate good times with good peoples.
