Just had a lovely conversation with my 80 year old mother....she said Dad (who is 81) was out shopping at Sams and going to the grocery store to get Steaks to cook tonight. I am so proud of my parents, BOTH who overcame extreme difficulties in life. My mother was 12 and 13 during WW2 in Munich Germany, she ran from bunker to bunker while the Americans was bombing Munich. She was running through debris fields, fires, and rubble, but by the grace of God, she was not killed. Then she had to overcome the food rationing, shortage of goods, and things that worn torn countries goes through after severe destruction left nothing but rubble. Then there is my Dad, you grew up in a family of 11 siblings. His father died at age 4 and his mother was forced to move to Selma Alabama after selling her cow and land. He grew up in poverty in a house at 800 Franklin Street, Selma Alabama and made the best of what could be made of with the limited means of food and money that my grandmother had (many thanks to my Uncles for sending my grandmother money to support the rest of her family-and many thanks to my Aunts for taking in their siblings to ease the burden from my grandmother). My dad, who finished high school and moved down to Miami to live with his sister, and then joined the Military and also took college classes to become an Officer in the United States Army and serve in the Military for 29 years. Then after retirement, continued to work in Saudi Arabia, then after years of living in the Middle East to come home and continue to work at a private company up until his 70s just goes to prove and show that 2 people, having 2 very different set of unfortunate circumstances as a child was able to make the choices they did to raise a family with 4 boys, travel around the world, live in several countries out side the United States and gave us the best life they could give us.-I am so glad that they are BOTH retired today and living. I am proud of them and thankful to them that they taught me that everything I do in life will be a choice and I can achieve anything I want as long as I work hard for it and there is NO reason why I cant have what I want unless health would prevent it. Their story is inspiration to me and is why I continue to do what I can to make things better. Thank you Mom & Dad-I love you both!!!
