Just had the News Editor from The Sunday Herald on the phone. He is very interested in doing a piece about the seeming endorsement of the NO page in the Electoral Commissions Leaflet. I will keep you all posted . Hello again Neil, Thank you so much for calling me back. As requested I am now writing to you to explain why thousands of YES voters are up in arms at the content of the NO page within the Commissions leaflet. I have no issue with the No page if it were obvious to undecided voters it came from the NO campaign. Our issue is because it is in an official so called neutral document they may take it as FACT. I have copied and pasted the following for your consumption. We already know that our Pensions are safe. I am a pensioner and I have seen the letter from the DWP telling us they WILL be safe if Scotland becomes Independent. And how do the NO lot know how much mortgages and credit cards are going to cost the people of Scotland ? What they have here are NOT the facts. It maybe their opinion but they are NOT the facts. The Commission printed this leaflet and they must surely have known about the details of the no wording. Fair ... this a joke. And the Commission are supposed to be neutral. If I was an undecided voter and I read this I would assume what I was reading is the truth ..... simply because it says so in a supposedly unbiased leaflet ..... Grrrr Alba Gu Bràth Just had a guy on the phone from the Commission. He told me they had no input on the content of either side’s campaign. In other words they only printed what was offered to them. I told him if I had been an undecided voter I would have believed what I read about pensions and mortgages etc. because it looks like the Commission had endorsed this as the Commission’s name is on the front page. He said he would get his boss to call me back. His boss,who is in Wales just called me. He said it was clear from the bottom of page 7 that the campaign pages had been included as they were provided. I asked him if he really understood what is happening up here with regard to the media bias. He hadnt a clue. I let him know. My point to him was as above. At first he didnt agree because of the information at the bottom of page 7. So I gave him this scenario. I am a no voter with undecided friends. I have been trying to get them to vote NO. I have been telling them how if Scotland becomes Independent we will have higher mortgages,credit cards and pensions will be at risk. My undecided friends so far have not been convinced by my argument. Well, not until now that is. I now have the ammunition provided by the Commission which proves my case. He suggested I write in. I told him I would not be doing that as the can of worms had been opened already. He asked me what I wanted to do. I suggested the Commission put out some kind of statement in the Scottish press and on Scottish news channels to inform the public that they had NO input and indeed did NOT endorse either camps views. This way the public would know that the nonsense from the NO page came from Better Together and NOT from the Commission. He told me he could not make that call but said he would have someone from the Scotland call me to discuss this further ….. don’t hold your breath folks …. Just get on the phone and complain ! To cut a long conversation short,I asked her if the No page had the following,would the Commission still have allowed this : “If Scotland becomes an Independent Nation there will have to be border posts and passport controls” …. At first she would not answer my question,but when I pushed her for an answer she replied “YES !” Thank you for taking the time to digest my letter.
