Just had the privilege of performing for children and staff at Edgewood Center for Children and Families on behalf of Bread & Roses. (Edgewood serves thousands of children, youth, and families that have experienced traumatic stress leading to learning disabilities, mental illness, and debilitating behavioral issues). I brought percussion instruments with me and my cajon and invited two kids at a time to sit in with me on each song. The kids were wonderful. They listened to the songs and played along with patience and sensitivity. There were a couple of kids who were dancing really beautifully throughout the performance. At the end I invited everyone to grab an instrument and join a percussion jam while I was holding down the beat on the cajon. Its funny... I live just a few blocks away from this center and always wondered what it was for... Happy I got to be a part of these kids lives today. I might be back there soon. The expressive arts program director offered me a job :) music = medicine. I keep getting reminded of that. ❤️
