Just had to write a quick sum up of Hedzup for a company and thought I would post it on here to let those that dont know what we do see what we are about.Hedzup racing is one of the most original youth development projects in the country, through the running of a Motorcycle Road Racing team that takes part in selected rounds of the Scottish Championships, the Classic TT and Manx Grand Prix on the world famous Isle of Man TT Mountain Course, the youths get the chance to develop all sorts of life skills whilst having some of the most amazing experiences possible. Whilst the bikes are not ridden by youths, this would be far to dangerous for us to introduce given the level the team competes at, they are involved in all other parts of the team, from purchasing the bikes to preparing and maintaining them, no easy task for the Manx and TT events, given that we only spend £300 purchasing each bike for the Classic TT. Last year the team had the youngest ever pit crew doing the fuel stop for the rider in the Post Classic class in the Manx Grand Prix as this was done by 3x 16 year old youths, both male and female. We have also recently been given paperwork from the Police that shows that over the last year we have saved over £900,000 of public money as although the project is not solely aimed at youths with criminal backgrounds, we have more than 50% of the team being mainstream youths that just want to take part, the youths involved who do have criminal records did not offend whilst part of the team and we hope that this will continue. And all this from a project with no funding that relies on corporate sponsorship and fundraising events!
