Just in case I dont have a chance to get to the movies again this summer, doing my Best Of rankings now. Here we go, from Best to Worst! (I am counting April as a Summer month now, because of the movies it offered.) Last Summer was pretty dicey for me movie-wise, but this year has actually been surprisingly good. Loved: 1. Snowpiercer! Favorite of the summer by a wide margin, I put it up there with Matrix and District 9. 2. Captain America: Winter Soldier. A crisp, efficient Blockbuster that balanced character, theme, and action so well youd think it was a PIXAR Script. 3. The Raid 2. The best thing about Raid 2 is, even without the incredible action, it would have been a great crime movie. Also pretty sure this is the best car chase of all time. 4. Edge Of Tommorow. The fact this is in fourth place is just showing how good this Summer has been, any other year this would have been a walk for first. Really terrific offering a lot of people have been sleeping on. Really Liked: 5. X-Men: Days of Future Past. I preferred First Class, and dont think its quite up to the level of the four films I already mentioned, but this was a great watch. Fassbender and Macavoy did a great job elevating all the material they were given, and most of the action was great- Bryan Singer did continue his weird tradition of front loading the film, so all the best action is over within the first hour, then the climax just kind of hangs there. But still really enjoyed this one, dont want to damn it with faint praise. 6. Neighbors. Funny and pleasant. Good premise, and they kept is short and tight, so every scene had a big laugh. I dont remember it well now, and dont expect to watch it again, but they did a good job. Did Not Like: 7. Godzilla. What a bore. This isnt going to age well. Will Not See: Transformers 4 or Amazing Spider-Man 2 Hope To See, Expect to Enjoy: 22 Jump Street, Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the Galaxy
