Just in case youre going out this Halloween to ghost hunt. This e-brochure from wiki made me laugh. Yes, its got the basics in here, but I have to warn you, try to avoid any psychiatric hospital. Last thing anybody needs is a dead psychopath or sociopath following them around. Aside from that, I also recommend that you be straight forward and communicate with the dead as you would talk to a friend whom you havent seen in years. Be kind, use manners, and tell them that even though you are trying to communicate with them, you dont need them following you home. Before you got out on this ghost hunt - Ask for any spirits that are around you to help protect you and ward off any unpleasant spirits as you attempt to communicate with the dead. Saying a prayer beforehand in a group could potentially help. Many spirits are still very spiritual and believe in God. While some others… not so much... Be realistic, (most) dead people are still fully cognizant of what is going on. Dont act or say anything that would insult them. The more considerate that you are in the way that you talk to them, the more likely you are to get really good EVPs on your recorder. If you act like a clown, they will probably not stay around you. If you act like you are genuinely trying to talk, then you will probably get something. Also, you have to stop talking. Ask questions, but remember, you are trying to record them... not you or anybody else. Wait a good 15 to 20 seconds after you ask a question before asking another question. If you hear an obvious noise that you might forget - just say I heard a door close or I heard a bird tweet or whatever it was that you heard that way you are not wasting time trying to decipher what that odd noise was when it was the guy next to you passing gas perhaps (LOL), most importantly, if you see that someone is talking - just say, I see so-and-so talking right now. This helps when you analyze the sound file later. You can focus on the unknown voices or sounds. Finally, you will need to analyze your sound files. I use Wave-Pad which is about $80 to purchase. There may be a free version out there, but anything that is free is usually not going to give you the tools you need to reduce background noise or filter. If you have ANY questions let me know! Good luck on your hunt if you are doing one. Last but not least. I got my very first EVP on the very FIRST time I turned on my digital recorder AND I was in my OWN home. 30 seconds into a 1 minute recording… Class A EVP. That just happened to be on Halloween a few years back. (Halloween is my birthday! Go figure) ;) Happy Hunting!
