Just last night I was thinking back to when I was in first grade, - TopicsExpress

Just last night I was thinking back to when I was in first grade, 5 or 6 years old. Our teacher told us one day about what The Pledge meant. She told us about Pilgrims, and Patriots. She told us about how the blood of our forefathers baptized and consecrated our Nation. Her name was Mrs. Goldie and she taught us about those brave men and women who came before us and fought for the next generations freedom from tyranny. I didnt know what tyranny, dictator or sovereign meant then. BUT, I did understand FREEDOM. I understood even then that I was a lucky girl. I remember standing in her classroom each morning, hand over heart, reciting that Pledge of Allegiance. Then we would sing, My Country Tis of Thee, sweet land of Liberty, of thee I sing. I remember thanking God for letting me be born here in freedom and not somewhere else. I taught my own children to feel that same pride. Our next generation wont have that same sense of belonging and brotherhood. For the first time, I am ashamed of my country. My country has forgotten the sacrifices that gave them the right to be traitors.
