Just laying a few things out there. I mentioned this to someone - TopicsExpress

Just laying a few things out there. I mentioned this to someone when I noticed the group page was first started. I asked if I was still considered part of the group, or more importantly if I was really, truly a Marine. I served from July 17th. of 1995 to August 17th of 1997. I had only one duty station (1st. Group). I had every expectation of seeing the world, and making the Corp my career. I was originally diagnosed with RAD (reactive airway disorder) but was told to tell everyone I had asthma because it was easier for everyone to understand. I know there were several of the guys who believed I was faking to get out. I was 25 before I found a doctor sent me to a class on how to detect my triggers of an attack. Im almost 38 now, and I still carry an inhaler. I have 14 years as a police officer now and have a wonderful family. Im very serious when I say I tried to stay in the Corp. I was told in SEPS that there was nothing I could do. I couldnt even change branches due to my medical problem. I have to say, I have doubted myself and even if I really was a Marine. I was not in combat, I never deployed, and I didnt go over seas. I miss my time with FSSG though. I was sent to Camp Pendleton with many of the guys I went to MP School with at Ft. McClellan AL. I was told its a Homeland Security Base used for Federal Training now..... Timothy Gustafson Amanda Ambrose Hurles Vincent Laupp, Cpl. Smith and several others all were in class together, and sent to FSSG together. As Gus stated earlier, we truly were kids who didnt have a clue. I made a lot of mistakes there, and learned from every one of them. I miss those crazy times. I really missed MOUT training. I enjoyed working with everyone at Tustin Thunder races, the El Toro Air Show and showing the academy students just how wimpy they were at the university. Riot training was a blast. I remember Hurles having a broken nose from a tennis ball, or was it a riot shield? I have used what I learned and experienced from the Corp to teach the middle school kids where Im campus security. I wouldnt have traded my time for anything. I passed boot camp, but was I Marine?
