Just like I have been saying all along. The PM would have to fire her entire Cabinet and all state boards to win the next general election. Too many missteps, including the lastest one with the alleged ganga farmer and Life Sport Programme. NACTA: Partnership struggling Sunday, May 25 2014 The findings of an opinion survey being conducted by the North American Caribbean Teachers Association (NACTA) shows the approval rating of Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar has remained resilient four years after her victory even as that of Dr Keith Rowley has been climbing. In general, the findings show the ruling Peoples Partnership government struggling to retain its political support from 2010 when it comprehensively defeated the then ruling PNM. Although the PP has slipped, the PM’s approval rating remains relatively strong. NACTA said while Persad-Bissessar’s popularity suffered over the last few years, this has been on the mend in recent months as a result of positive response from the population of the tough actions she took to discipline errant ministers and Chairs and chairpersons and chief executive officers of government corporations and members of several boards. NACTA says however, that while the PM’s popularity was 25 percent higher than Rowley’s in June 2010, he is marginally ahead ( suggesting a tough general election battle ahead. The poll puts Persad Bissesar’s approval rating for her performance as Prime Minister at 49 percent with a disapproval rating of 38 percent and 13 percent offering no opinion giving her a net positive rating of 11 percent. Dr Rowley’s performance as Opposition Leader is 47 percent with 39 percent disapproving and 14 percent saying they are not sure. NACTA’S poll findings, however, show that any challenge to unseat Persad-Bissessar as UNC leader will not be successful as government supporters still express faith and confidence in her leadership and want to see her re-elected as prime minister. The findings of the poll are obtained from interviews with 540 respondents (44 percent Indians, 36 percent Africans, 19 percent mixed, and one percent Others) reflecting the demographics of the population. The poll, conducted over the last week, has a four percent margin of error, said pollster Vishnu Bisram. NACTA said the poll finds growing disenchantment in the performance of the government with voters losing confidence in the PP’s ability to rein in violent crime and rising cost of living. Almost everyone (93 percent) views crime as the leading issue with the murder of Dana Seetahal uppermost in peoples’ minds. The approval rating of the government is down to 38 percent with a disapproval index of 44 percent and 18 percent not offering a response. Recent scandals have hurt the rating of the government. Several ministers of the government and members of government boards are very unpopular hurting the government’s image and boosting the PNM’s chances at recapturing the government at the next election, says NACTA.
