Just noticed this didnt post from the other day. I know many dont like the idea of L plates and strapping in to the passenger seat as instructor . But I actually enjoy it and have been actively viewing the road for multiple family members over the last 12 months . And on Australia Day it was a case of me doing as I have been saying such that I made it between my picnic and beach clean up in one piece. Having only just been saying to my niece that at a green light you still should always check before you enter the intersection, my lesson came home to roost. Familiar set of lights change to green and I wait a second before I start to enter steep arterial rd intersection. I look at car coming down hill way too fast to be stopping, so I hold back and it sails through the intersection at 80+ km/hr barely half a metre from me. Had I just pulled out I would have been clean T boned right in mid-ships where I sat. Shakes you up a bit when everything moving so fast suddenly takes up slow motion. I remained at the lights in a bit of shock at the speed with which they sailed by but at the next lights I mentioned to the driver that they just drove straight through a red light and left it at that. We certainly do need to keep distraction to a minimum behind the wheel. Nice current example to share when Im helping clock up the learners hours.
