Just ran across a little sports note that I did not know - imagine that. Floyd Bannister, who was the overall #1 pick by the Houston Astros in the 1976 Amateur Draft, was born on June 10, 1955 in Pierre, S.D. While he later attended HS in Seattle and college at Arizona State, the fireballing lefty had a record of 134-143 with a 4.06 era, 16 shutouts and 1,723 strikeouts with six MLB teams over 15 seasons. He pitched with the Astros, White Sox, Mariners, Royals, Angels and Rangers. Some of us baseball fans might find this a bit interesting with the MLB draft set for tomorrow and Houston again owning the #1 pick. Not sure, many South Dakotans have been the #1 overall pick. In that same 1976 draft, Mike Scioscia, the current Angels manager, was the 19th pick by the Dodgers.
