Just received a copy of “The Mind’s I”—Fantasies and Reflections on Self & Soul” by Douglas Hofstadter & Daniel Dennett. They didn’t write every single essay, but how could you NOT like a book that features such articles as “What Is It Like To Be a Bat?”, “Borges and I”, “On Having No Head”, “Rediscovering the Mind”, and “A Conversation with Einstein’s Brain”?? I read it when it came out in 1981. Time to rediscover it! Another amazing book was written by Dr. Oliver Sacks whose research on dopamine was the basis of the film, “Awakenings” with Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. I met him in 1991 in NYC and he had written by that time another amazing volume called “The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat” amazon/Man-Who-Mistook-His-Wife/dp/0684853949/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1371499705&sr=1-1&keywords=the+man+who+mistook+his+wife+for+a+hat
