Just received this; purportedly from the American embassy. **security notice****You may have heard that there were 2 bombs in Kaduna this afternoon. We are making contact with citizens there to make sure they are all ok and also our staff members who have families in Kaduna – so far all are well. It looks like the first bomb targeted moderate Islamic cleric Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi who had just finished leading the Ramadan Tafsir near Muktala square on the Alkali road in Kaduna. A bomb appears to have been thrown from a passing motorcycle but missed the Sheikh. We understand that he has been preaching against Boko Haram during Ramadan. There are reports that General (rtrd.) Muhammadu Buhari narrowly escaped the second bomb at the Kawo motor park in Kaduna; 3 of his assistants were reportedly injured. It is very likely that there will be follow-up attacks which could take place in Jos, Abuja, Kano or indeed anywhere in Nigeria. Once again we ask you to be extremely vigilant and to avoid all areas where Nigerians gather in large numbers, including mosques, churches, markets, motor parks, plazas and bush bars. Be aware that there could be bombs in the coming days during the Sallah holidays. Citizens in Abuja should be advised that there are reports that the military has uncovered plans for a Boko Haram attack on 5 busy spots in the FCT. These are: the Utako market (reportedly a heavy security presence there today), the Area 1 Shopping Centre, DeiDei Market, the Farmers’ Market in Maitama and the Area 3 Motor Spare Parts Market. You are advised to completely avoid these market areas. If we hear of an attack in your area we will make contact with you by phone, text message and/or email. I would ask that you respond to any messages you receive from the embassy to confirm that you are well, and give your name when you reply by text (there is no need to reply to this email).***security notice***
