Just reporting the facts… The problems just keep showing up at the Ministry of Education. The latest issue which reveals the discrepancy between the image projected and the actual reality of the dysfunctional situation at the Ministry is evident in the unlawful expelling of a headmistress from her position at the school in Akabet Byakout in the Metn A year ago, a smear campaign was launched against the Head Mistress Mrs Georgette Daoud, which got her fired form her position despite her pristine record and her well known devotion to improving the school. The husband of a substitute teacher who is indirectly related to Antoine Zahra an MP for the LF replaced her. Zahra it seems intervened on their behalf at the ministry. However, the matter was investigated and revoked and Mrs Daoud was returned to her position in December of 2013. The individual responsible for supervising the investigation at the Ministry of Education has since been forced to resign due to extreme pressure. In the beginning of the year, under the present Minister of Education Mr. Bou Saab, the attack against Mrs Daoud began again, led by the same substitute teacher who has a bad reputation for squatting in her job and many complaints and penalties to her name. Through her same contacts at the Ministry, this woman succeeded in getting Mrs Daoud removed again!! Despite her previous acquittal!! But this time they removed Mrs Daoud PRIOR to any investigation - which is breaking the law. Sadly Mrs Daoud has been denied any recourse to defend her self. She has been refused access to Minister Bou Saab after several attempts to get an appointment. It seems also worth noting that since her unlawful expelling she has been replaced temporarily by Mr Nicholas Charbel who was also just removed from his position as headmaster of a school in Antellias by request from a well-known “woman in red” to the Minister. In Summary what are we to deduce from the following: Political favoritism: Electoral Campaign Harvesting (in the Metn)? Unfair dismissal without prior investigation: Breaking the Law? Denial of recourse to clarification for dismissal: Violation of Rights? Unlawful use of influence to destroy someone’s career: Abuse of Power? Lack of valuation for credentials and work record: Disregard for Professionalism? The questions are: Does the Ministry of Education need to be educated in the ways of fairness and reform? Has the Minister of Education forgotten to which party he owes allegiance? The only way that this case can be dealt with decently is to reinstate Mrs. Daoud as headmistress of Aqabet Byakout Official School.
