Just saw a post on friendships in the show world gone bad! So thought Id share a bit. Im a newbie and Im not candy coating this one bit. Over the last 6 years, I have seen the dog shows take many friendships (Id question a friendship a dog could come between) My husband thinks this sport is brutal and from my experience, I agree 100% (its really a shame its that way) but in the end, it is what it is and if you love your breed and want to continue to show, you MUST have very thick skin for this venture. I will say in the last 6 years i have been lied to, cheated, double charged, taken advantage of, ripped off, used, talked about, trashed, etc... all in the name of good sportsmanship and friendship (sad thing is, Im not anyone special - it happens to almost everyone that walks into the sport). OH Lordy, I could go on, but i know most have experienced the same and if your still around, you are a hard core, die-hard fan of the Sport and you are not going anywhere. In all honesty its a dieing industry, most show people chew up and eat newbies before they can ever truly be mentored and learn what it takes to develop a good program and several newbies come in and want to win automatically and never hang around to build a true friendship and breeding program that takes years to develop with mentoring. Bottom line, we all need to support each other both seasoned and unseasoned. Sometimes, I fear standing ringside, I expect the Lordy Almighty to send a lighting bolt down due to pack syndrome! I may be adding a little Drama, but not much :) we talk about newbies being chewed up but how many of you have seen the seasoned breeder get down on their luck and the pack comes in for the kill - im telling ya a brutal sport indeed!
