Just saw the headline that speaks of our PM asking for more focus - TopicsExpress

Just saw the headline that speaks of our PM asking for more focus on Jakarta as opposed to Geneva, in terms of Foreign Policy. I cant applaude him enough amongst many other wise moves his Government has made; this is a shift on Foreign Policy Focus that should have been made during the Labor Government, especially considering Penny Wong was at times jumping up and down hysterically about the Asian Century. I. There are 200 plus million people in Indonesia, the potential of Australian Investment if we pay them appropriately and do not intervene with their National Affairs is phenomenal. II. They are our immediate neighbours in the Region, and a collaboration with Indonesia to some extent may see Security improvements in the Region. III. In the long run we would like to see some form of Continental Cooperation, a Super Alliance one may say, or Super Coalition of Australasian Neighbours. There are many roles each and every Nation can play seeing each Nation have particular Strengths others may not have. In this Coalition/Alliance we have Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, East Timor, Malaysia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, and other small Island Nations nearby. I see it fit that Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines take a lead role. Nothing like the EU, all Nations would have their absolute Independence, and other Nations may only have a say as regards matters concerning the Region. Obviously Nations will always raise something that will assist their Nation, this is fine, but such prospects when it does involve other Nations may be raised with such an Alliance. Without jumping the gun first and foremost we should solidify and build a solid relationship with Jakarta, and if we can do that, all Nations within our Region will see this is something possible. It would be the ultimate Security and Trade Cooperation, and thats all it will be and nothing else. From this for example, we could offer their local languages in our HSC by bringing over language experts of those Nations, and in return we could export the Worlds Tongue which is English. This would help foster greater business across the Region as people could travel freely and understand whats going on. One day Id love to for example, go to Papua New Guinea and raise an RL team and help the locals; I love the locals there, they are amongst the most warm hearted and receptive people on Earth. Our Defence Force along with New Zealand could do a lot in Training Assisting and laying the platform for infrastructure in diverse places. Again, everything would be at the consent of the associated Nations and explained thoroughly, but I cant see anything but good come from this.
