Just saw this nugget of hilarity.. Goes hand in hand with something I read the other day... Let me explain... In an article I read the other day, it described on what made music so popular. The summary was simplicity in the song, whether it is the structure or the basic chord progressions. We like things almost to be predictable, and find it comfortable. Plus, we are simplifying our overall tastes. For example, why are there far fewer fans of technical and progressive rock? Country music is getting very predictable, and VERY simple, as you can see with this. Hence, the fan base of most country artists are people that arent of the highest intellect. (There are some, but not many sorry if this gets offensive, but deal with it.) It is basic, and not only is the structure, and musical quality slipping, the lyrical content is junk too. How many songs have a reference to a Ford, or Chevy truck (I own a Silverado, and dont put it on blast.) Even better is the reference to beer in a not so subtle way. You wont see things like classic rock-ish style breaking new grounds, or into the top of the charts anytime soon. Its too complex, and we dont like complex. The masses want the mindless drone of 4/4 time, and songs about beer, girls, and how American they are, not really. This little nugget of musical knowledge shows why country music is so popular. It follows a formula for the dulled mind. They follow along, and soak it up more than the Bud Light they drink at Country Thunder every damn year. Thats it... End rant...
