Just saw this on TripAdvisor forum re: Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort: Dec 14, 2014, 9:37 PM Arrived three hours ago. Definitely open, but scaled back. Have never been here before but clear effort to be upscale, at least four star. Pluses: very few other guests, lots of very attentive and friendly staff, every thing clean, right on the ocean. We were welcomed with drinks and a bottle of wine, fresh flowers in room. Free Internet service in lobby. Negatives: placed on ground floor despite calling ahead to request third floor (tomorrow they are moving us to second floor at 3 pm), very hard beds, bathroom design doesnt give a whole lot of privacy, food mid quality. Too much piped, loudish music in lobby; Id much rather listen to ocean. Two different songs can be heard at same time: headache-town. Wood floor in lobby oiled to a slight slickness. Have not seen any bathrobes, yet. Have not yet seen the place in daylight or during construction hours. Overall, so much more than we expected.
