Just sharing my another product experience with bunny parents - Cat litter versus Pee Pad. I read online and/or see other peoples setup on their litter trays and tried many permutations to perfect for my 2 bunnies use. As most experienced bunnies parents would know that daily changes of our furkids trays has become part of our daily household chores, hence it is even important that we do so conveniently, environmentally friendly and pocket friendly as well. This post is about Pee Pad vs Cat Litter, hence I will be talking about Pocket Friendly factor. I have used both Pee Pad and Cat litter for my furkids and even at one point, used both at the same time. It is not pocket sustainable to use both especially I change daily for Koogle. Cottons tray is changed on alternate days but still, if I can save more, why not? Pee Pad (size 35 x 45cm) is able to absorb one day of Koogles pee. I tried using both Pee Pad and Cat litter (Celect) on Koogles tray but I still have to change daily and if I do not, Koogle will pee outside his tray. I think he is a hygienic bunny habit. If I use just Cat litter, I will need to use 2 cups (party plastic cup size) of litter to fill his litter tray [size: 41.5cm X 30.5cm X 10.5cm (Height)]. I have even observed which are his favourite peeing spot and concentrate the litter in these spot....then again, daily change is still needed else he will stray pee. Cottons tray is larger such that ca. 50 x 42 x 7cm, so more cups of litter is needed to spread out. So a bag of 30L Cat litter (the lowest I was able to get is $28/bag) can only last me 3.5 weeks. And a bag of Pee Pad (35x45cm cost $20/bag of 100 pads for Koogle or 45 x 60cm costs $20/bag of 50 for Cotton) can last me 100 days (almost 3 months!). I believe the maths already tells you which is a pocket friendly choice. In case one is concerned about their urine smell, fear not, because it makes not much differences for my case if I use Pee Pad only, Cat litter only or use both the Pee Pad and Cat litter together. Also, most herbivores urines do not smell as they aint meat eater. However, if your bunnies urine really stink, maybe you should see vet for any UI or study their diet again.
