Just some heads up on sleeper pieces of gear that can offer you - TopicsExpress

Just some heads up on sleeper pieces of gear that can offer you superb results for very very little money. First off the JVC HAS500, Ive used these for two years now and the translation on them is crazy. I used to laugh at the prospect of mixing and mastering on headphones but these babies changed all of that. They use Carbon Nano Tube drivers and go down to 7hz. Translation on these is just silly good. Second and just as important is the infamous SMSL SD1955. This is a very inexpensively priced and exceptionally put together DAC. It uses very high end components, including the opamps, the converters and the capacitors. The DA used is the one seen in the Lavry Black DA10. This little puppy is great because it runs off coaxial, lightpipe and USB inputs. The newest version called Sanskrit is specd at 192khz vs this one at 96khz. They street for under $150. Plus you can upgrade the opamps to even better components. The opamps are on sockets so nonsoldering needed. I upgraded one opamp and it gave the unit more headroom. These things rule and we use it at our facility. Lots of skeptics become believers once they give it a listen. I have mine clocked via spdif over coaxial from the RME HDSP 9652. Superb results. Any other sleeper/cheaper hits?
