Just some thoughts.... I would like to suggest for just a moment that Christians are loosing ground because many of its members are not displaying the power that the bible clearly states should be present in their lives. Shamefully, I too have represented this comment at times in my life. I am not just speaking of miraculous power, but , even the basic power to resist sin. Galatians 5:16New King James Version (NKJV) 16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Gods Holy Spirit clearly gives us the power to overcome sin. Staying within the context of Galations 5, I am not talking about vain or excessive rule keeping. I am talking about sinning less. Less than who? Less than the world around us. Less than our community. Less than most of our forms of entertainment. A covenant with Jesus should affect our communication, social habits, and basic human behavior. I realize that at times we fail, however, grace has never, nor will it ever, be a blanket covering allowing covenant people to disregard the teachings of our Jesus, the apostles, and prophets. There are clear teachings on what to do when we fail or fall. I will not call it stumbling. Stumbling is an accident. I am talking about when we really blow it. There is grace for these moments. However, even grace asks us to repent. That word repent simply means to change. I too have need of improvement in this area. I will not simply quit, or hope that Jesus overlooks my neglect. I will confess to Jesus, because He is faithful to forgive me, and I will employ the power of His Spirit to overcome my flesh. I invite you to join me. We may see more sinners come to Christ if we show that His Spirit empowers us to overcome the vices of human existence. Why would they convert if they saw that we are no different than them? Why such a lengthy and difficult paragraph? Because I often preach at a local jail. Some of these men are jailed for doing things that I see us do. The only difference is that they got caught. When we are invited to speak to them, we cant just promise more, we have to be more. Just some thoughts.
