Just spent a few hours reading through a notebook of civil war era - TopicsExpress

Just spent a few hours reading through a notebook of civil war era letters that made their way through the family to my grandfather. One notebook holds more passion, heartache, suffering and conviction than many of us can comprehend in our time. Here is a passage from one letter between two lovers, dated Sept 15, 1859: Dear Sally, when this you see, remember me through many a mile the distance be. My heart is constant, fixed on thee. If you love me as I love you, no two-edged sword can cut our love in two. Dear Sally, remember what I have told you. I hope that you will never forget me through many miles apart we lie. So no more at present, but remain your true lover til death.
