Just the usual reminder that collaboration with agencies may soon become completely non-viable for no reason other than the terms of the standard contracts they require. I have read yet another UK-agencys standard contract today, and my chief reflection is that a gentleman never would have drafted a dirty thing like that. The luridly, shamelessly overt one-sidedness and subjection makes it little better, or perhaps a little worse, than an indentured service contract. It does put you on the level of less than a free human being. Insulting doesnt begin to cover it. And thats by far not the first or only UK agency with that type of standard contract. Rather, I have yet to meet an exception. Where did those people get the mentality from I cannot say. But its gotta change. And translators need to read before they sign. And refuse to put their signature under dirty, dirty language.
