Just thinking... Before I went to the nursing home with Sister Lucille this morning, I was reading the final chapter for my nutrition class about caring for the elderly. It was explaining their needs and emotional states during the latter years, and their need for a sense of belonging and self-esteem. It really touched my heart when the administrator told me that it was her first time ever seeing some of the residents smiling and laughing. Hearing that nearly brought tears to my eyes, but more than that it confirmed that I am doing exactly what God called me to do. As I interacted with the residents, the sparkle in their eyes was priceless! Some of them made comments about Sister Lucilles beauty and fashion (LOL), while others simply told me how glad they were that I was there. Still others held onto my hand as if they would never let me go. My experience today was just wonderful and it made me so much more determined to become a nurse. And the irony of it all was this...God allowed me to minister today in the very place where my mother died just two years ago. Of course, I will always be so grateful for the wonderful and supportive staff at Washington Care Center! #amerryheartdoesgoodlikemedicine #proverbs17:22
