Just to be transparent since ECT is being accused of stirring the pot with Mayor Wade Harpers comments from yesterday. Here is his full speech prior to the March which we recorded. “Antioch is a great city, I have a background in law enforcement for 24 years and ministry, I have the police chief on speed dial and we are always talking and he had a surgery recently and I sent him a little email with a little kid and a mean face that said if you refuse to take a nap are you resisting a rest. In other words we are always talking about law enforcement issues and I will tell him have you considered this, when there was a shooting and one person was killed (in Tracy), this is what we did. When there was an increase in robberies, this is what we did. So I am always talking to him about these things. We are concerned about these things. Even before this recent spike, the city council got your help to pass Measure C to hire more police officers. And also, we agreed to hire legacy officers from other agencies so we were trying to get prepared for this. But this isn’t just for today; this is for when she (Harper pointed to a child in the audience) is mayor and generations to come we will have things in place. It’s not just enforcement, that is one part of it, but I believe ministries like Pastor Adams has the power to change people’s hearts. You can’t just do everything with enforcement. He understands we are not wrestling against flesh and blood, but principalities. It’s good when we get together that we love our city. I believe in the City of Antioch, we have great people in the City of Antioch. There are so many wonderful things going on in the city of Antioch. There is only a tiny percentage of people that will commit crime. The majority of people in Antioch are wonderful people that love our community. You know, but if you chase around police scanners, you won’t understand that. You know, so I have councilmembers here today, they are very strong councilmembers and they love Antioch. We love Antioch and we are going to make a difference in the community not just for today but for the future. Let’s march and let people know we are not going to accept violence. We have a great community.”
