Just to clarify something... I love sports. I DESPISE /professional/ sports. Sports brings us health, competition, fun, entertainment, team building, etc... Professional sports brings us wife beaters, life long injury, communities traumatized by the aftermath of sporting events, fans who have the IQ of rocks and parents who force their kids to shake it off and play harder than they want to in order to be the star they couldnt be. But I feel the same about music (love it) and /professional/ music (HATE it). Music should be about everyone in the pup singing along. Off key singers might want to sing a bit more quietly, but EVERYONE should sing. People with talent should be invited to the mic or to gather at the piano. No one should be made fun of for not singing well. We need that for sports. I would love to shuffle my 50 year old, sad, worn out body over to a soccer ball and try to kick a goal with my bad knee. I would SUCK at it. Wouldnt know which goal is mine and if I did, the ball wouldnt go there. And it would probably hurt me. But Id love to do it. It would be good for me. Never going to happen. Sometimes, when Im singing at a mic, in front of a (small) crowd, I gesture for everyone to sing along. You know, when its a song everyone knows and we get to the chorus or whatever... Its GREAT to hear people making a joyful noise. When have you ever seen an athlete pass the ball to an old man?
