Just wanted to give a little brag about the terrific check up - TopicsExpress

Just wanted to give a little brag about the terrific check up Dover had at the holistic vet yesterday. This was his extended blood profile and geriatric exam visit - which is difficult for me to grasp the term geriatric because he sure doesnt act it, at 10 he is still active and still competing in obedience and performance events. The vet kept running her fingers through his coat and marveling at the condition of his skin and coat. Raw fed?, she asked knowingly. You got it! Such a breath of fresh air not to have to defend my choices in how I rear my dogs. And also in how this type of practice encourages owner participation - no taking the dog away, everything happens right in front of you - or if they have to take the dog behind the scenes you are invited to follow - come on back, lets do this together - open door policy. Lots of smiles and laughter from the staff, gentle atmosphere - you can tell a lot about a vet by how the staff behave. None of the you should be doing this, no fear mongering, just respect and shared knowledge. I know for most holistic vets they only see very sick dogs as a last resort - people who have followed conventional veterinary medicine the dogs entire life but then, when the worst happens, seek holistic care as a last, life saving resort, and when the holistic approach fails because it is simply too late for anything to work, it is deemed ineffective. Im sure this gets very difficult and frustrating which is why I think the whole group were thrilled to see a healthy dog. I cant say anything bad about my conventional vets, they sure have been there for me, but I treasure my holistic vets and especially my homeopath! I certainly think I can count on another 100,000 miles out of Dover but I will take whatever I can get!
