Just wanted to lash out today about immigration and flag burning by selfish people that only think of themselves but instead I will take the high road and share a story of why a real American citizen would never burn our flag because of the real people it represents . When you see our flag on fire on the ground and people spitting on it, picture this scene and remember this story . With Thompson’s help, Watkins was able to gather the appropriate paperwork and submit it to the Veterans Administration so Ceniceros could be presented with a folded, three-point flag on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, in honor of her husband, Army Pfc. Gonzalo Ceniceros. Five men from The University of Texas at El Paso, led by Lt. Col. Timothy Turnipseed, associate professor of military science, visited with Ceniceros and several family members during a surprise afternoon presentation that was made by Turnipseed. “This is all I want,” repeated Ceniceros who was overcome with emotion. She said little else as she clutched the flag and cried. Pfc. Gonzalo Ceniceros, shown in an undated photo, earned several military ribbons and medals including a Purple Heart during World War II. The significance of presenting the flag to the widow on Veterans Day was not lost on Watkins, who spends much of his workweek helping veterans, active-duty military and their family members to get a college education. “(Gonzalo Ceniceros) deserved it and we wanted to make this right to ensure that veterans are not forgotten,” he said. Pfc Ceniceros was killed in WW II and his Widow was promised a flag but it never happened , today thanks to good people that wrong has now been righted .
