Just wanted to share something with everyone that I could have mentioned a while ago but I wanted to wait until it was definite. Back in June I was having weird episodes with my heart where it felt like it was skipping a lot of beats, so I contacted my cardiologist and he put a heart monitor on me for a few days. A few weeks later when I went back to see him for the results from the monitor it showed that my heart is at risk of going into episodes which stop it beating completely, but its not a guarantee that it will do that one day - it might not but the risk is still there, and the only way to remove that risk completely is to get an operation to implant an ICD (which stands for Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator). But he put me on an anti arrhythmia drug and since then Ive felt great. But there is still that risk that in the future my heart could just stop at any moment, and obviously if that happens its game over. So after weeks of researching and deliberation I decided on Wednesday to go ahead with the operation to remove this risk thats hanging over me. Im just glad they uncovered this issue before it was too late, because many people such as a number of well known sports people have died because they had this issue but didnt know about it. Its just a small (ish!) operation, Ill be awake during the procedure and I should be in hospital for no more than 3 nights at the most. So I dont want any of you to worry! Think of it as a safety net for my heart :) Im just waiting on word now, Ill be getting the op within the next 2 months, so Ill keep you all posted (Y)
