Just watched 12 Years a Slave for the 1st time...my stomach hurts, my heart is heavy & my tears are flowing. I HATE slavery & what it did & has done to black people. I hate to think anyone could ever treat another human being like an animal. I hate the way slave owners thought they can OWN a human being & abuse & mistreat them. This movie was an amazing & well done production of the worst human treatment of our brothers & sisters. NO ONE is above another…MONEY doesnt make you better than another or entitled to treat people disgustingly. It makes me SO angry & SO grateful for the abolitionists, those who fought for equal rights, those who died trying, the soldiers in the Civil War & THANK GOD for Abraham Lincoln signing the Emancipation Proclamation. Now I KNOW there is a lot of controversy surrounding ALL of it, and I know we STILL have so far to go but my family is a true reflection of love crossing all boundaries & LOVE SEES NO COLOR. Im grateful beyond words that in the 70s, my white dad married my korean mom & that I am able to love who I choose. I CANT imagine not having my beautiful brown girls! My heart is SO heavy & I PRAY…because unfortunately slavery & racism is STILL not dead. Yet.
