Just watched a fascinating installment of the NFL Network A Football Life about San Francisco 49ers legendary coach Bill Walsh. Walsh was an innovator much like Bill Belichick. He was the first coach to script plays before a game. This meant that the 49ers knew exactly what the first 25 plays would be and practiced them obsessively. There would be no need for in game adjustments. Bill Parcells Revealed that in several NFC Championship games between the Giants and the 49ers that Bill Walsh would LIE to game officials that his headphones and communications systems werent working. Under NFL rules both teams then could not use their systems. But the 49ers didnt need their headphones. They werent going to use them. The Giants were at a competitive disadvantage because Parcells couldnt make in game adjustments. Only after Parcells figured it out and threatened Walsh next time he would expose live on TV that Walsh was lying did Walsh stop. The 49ers won at least 2 NFC Championship games this way, perhaps more. The Giants beat them the next 3 playoff games they played in subsequent years. Yet Walsh is hailed as a genius and the 49ers as the greatest dynasty while Belichick and the Patriots are cheaters ??? The Steelers of the 70s were rampant abusers of steroids well before the rest of the NFL. Most died young. Don Shula chaired the NFL Competition Committee and changed the rules every season to suit his read. The Peyton Manning/Bill Polian Colts did the same. The Denver Broncos of the 90s lied and manipulated the salary cap and were sanctioned severely after the fact. The Cowboys of the 90s were a walking pharmacy and criminal organization. None are vilified as the Patriots are. Stop Patriots haters. Youre embarrassing yourselves.
