Just when you thought it was OK to get excited about gas prices, - TopicsExpress

Just when you thought it was OK to get excited about gas prices, here I go pointing out something that puts a damper on it. Ok. Here goes. The picture on the left is from a Chevron in Mobile , AL on Jan 1, 2015. Picture on the right is from a Shells in Birmingham on Jan 20, 2015. Mind you, both are selling regular gas for $1.89,per gallon. But the trickery comes in on the mid grade and the premium. Notice how the good folk in Mobile have a nice, modest, reasonable, incremental increase of .15 (fifteen cents) if you wish to have more techron in your fuel. But OH BOY, your friendly neighborhood Birmingham Shells rakes you over the coals if youd like the PLUS by adding a whopping .70 (seventy cents). And if you drive German, thats gonna cost you an additional .12 (twelve cents) power gallon. There is no method to this madness. If the plus is suppose to be an even mixture of the regular and premium, how does this even make sense. Moral of the story, if you use regular petroleum, youre find regardless of where you live. But if you live in the Birmingham metro area, pay attention to the incremental increases because you may be getting the best bang for your buck. Ive found a thirty cents difference at gas stations directly across the street from each other in Birmingham. But that regular tho.... Was a nice $1.89 to get you there. Dont be afraid to do a drive by to compare the plus and premium prices. I do. Most will only advertise the regular on the sign. So you may have to pull all the way up to the pump to save some money.
